Understanding UK digital comics information and publishing practices: From creation to consumption

This research will support the British Library in building contemporary collections of UK comics, building understanding ofthe tools used and information flows in the process of production of digital comics, from creators to readers. As detailed inthe Project Summary, this project will seek to produce a detailed understanding of UK digital comics information andpublishing practices from creation to consumption. This will be an understanding of the information needs and behaviour ofcomics creators and consumers, and the motivations and rationale driving them. The project will develop an empirically-grounded theory describing UK digital comics information and publishing practices and explains comic creators' motivationsand rationale driving those practices. Finally, the work will produce guidelines to inform UK digital comics collectionmanagement and digital preservation policy and content strategy development, supporting the BL and other knowledgeinstitutions in deciding what comic-related digital information to collect, preserve and provide future access to and how bestto do so.
