What is the problem being addressed? There is a lack of access to neurologists for patients withneurological conditions as a result of the profound shortfall in neurologist capacity. The issuesneed to be identified to improve the work environment for neurologists and the access to care forpatients.What will we do? Our overarching aim is to enable the use of routinely collected neurology data to improve neurology services and thereby increase access to care and improve the work environment for neurologists.What is the social science component? This project uses social science methods such as state sequence analysis and investigates issues pertinent to social science such as the effect ofbehaviour (both patient and clinician) and social factors (such as socio-economic status) on thepatient's interaction with health provision.The research questions being asked: Our overarching aim is to enable the use of routinelycollected neurology data to improve neurology services and thereby increase access to care andimprove the work environment for neurologists. We will achieve this by (1) quantifying the patientinteraction with health care provision, (2) describing the relationship between health care provision patterns and factors from demographics to the healthcare setting, (3) examining theeffect of changes of the system. We expect the work for each aim to take a year to complete including paper submission. The order of work will be planned and adapted dependent on results from each stage and other work currently being undertaken.
