Immersive virtual reality & the neural mechanisms of spatial memory in aging

Recent developments in immersive virtual reality allow experimental manipulations todissociate the cognitive components of spatial behaviour. Novel computational analyses caninterpret spatial behaviour in terms of its component processes, and computational models ofthe underlying neural mechanisms have been formed from cross-species neuroscientificinvestigation. We will apply these technical and analytical advances to understand thedeterioration of spatial behaviour in healthy aging in terms of its underlying componentprocesses and neural mechanisms. We hope this work will have important impact on qualityof life and coping strategies in healthy aging and dementia.
