英文摘要
Understanding the impact of phonological awarenessintervention on the speech sound system of children withconsistent phonological disorder. The incidence of Speech Sound Disorder in children isapproximately 7%, of whom over 20% will have ConsistentPhonological Disorder (CPD). Typically they receivePhonological Awareness (PA) intervention to improve their PAskills and resolve some of their speech sound productionerrors. However, children with CPD make varying amounts ofprogress following PA intervention, some are completelyintelligible and others still require intervention to specificallytarget their CPD. The primary aim of this project is to discoverif there are identifiable subgroups of children with CPD whorespond differently to PA intervention in terms of its impact ontheir expressive phonology.Firstly, a systematic review of literature will be completed toassess existing evidence for PA approaches for Early YearsFoundation Stage children with SSD Secondly, a quasiexperimentalexperimental group study will evaluate theimpact of PA intervention on speech sound systems ofchildren with CPD. Up to 50 children with CPD aged 3;00 to5;11 will be recruited and assessed on measures of PA,speech sound production and receptive and expressivelanguage at three stages: pre-intervention, followingintervention, and after a consolidation period. All participantswill receive the Newcastle Intervention for PhonologicalAwareness (NIPA) (Stringer, 2019), a well-evidenced andwidely used PA intervention.Changes in speech sound errors over the three assessmentphases will be statistically analysed in relation to the researchquestions and subgroups of children with CPD identified. Results from this project will inform SLT practice, so that PAintervention can be more effectively targeted.
