This PhD aims to use the 'reaction coordinate mapping' (RCM) from the theory of open quantum systems, and TEMPO (Time-Evolving Matrix Product Operator) to calculate the full counting statistics of heat and work in quantum thermodynamics. Heat and work are stochastic quantities in quantum mechanics, requiring them to be defined through a probability distribution. The RCM is an analytic mapping which redefines the boundary between the 'system' and 'bath', while TEMPO is a numerically exact method, both of which can be used to study the dynamics of open quantum systems in the strong coupling (non-Markovian) regime. These two methods can be used in conjunction with the 'two point measurement protocol' to find the full counting statistics of heat and work transfer between an open quantum system that is strongly coupled to a bath.
