Black holes are important astrophysically and in high energy physics. However, little is known about their fate when they interact with quantum fields. Understanding the behaviour of quantum field theories in curved spacetime is an important problem, not least because we know that the universe does contain regions of very large curvature. While some progress has been made in the context of static (i.e. not rotating) black holes, not much is known about the rotating case (which is the generic case). Using a Randall-Sundrum type II model, we hope to solve this long-standing problem. This project will necessarily involve solving three-dimensional systems of partial differential equations on a large scale computational platform.
