Writing across borders: translational writing from East-Central Europe

The term 'translational writing' refers to works that are written in a second language and displaced works, published at a spatial/temporal remove from their origins. Such writing traces transnational identities and opens up comparative ways of thinking about literary translation. This project will investigate 'translational' writing, while illuminating its trajectories across migrant communities from East-Central Europe. Works by Terezia Mora, Monika Szydlowska, Katja Petrowskaja and Sasa Stanisic, among others, call for innovative translation approaches. Creative response to these texts, developed through transnational dialogues, can offer opportunities to promote transcultural understanding and inform more representative, inclusive practices for hybrid communities.
