Whereas the intersection of architecture and music has historically focused upon their shared use of mathematical proportions and their immersive character, this PhD develops a novel approach to sonically articulate the phenomenological experience of buildings through site-specific sonification. Informed by Lefebvre's theory of rhythmanalysis and by a rich history of intersectional practice between music and architecture, the project explores existing and new methods for producing sonifications, alongside a diverse portfolio of original site-specific works that reflect, document and intervene in a selection of public buildings and spaces.
