Improvements in gravitational wave detectors demand increasingly accurate waveform models for event detection and parameter extraction. It has been proposed that knowledge of self-force corrections to scattering observables can be used to improve the accuracy of post-Minkowskian and other analytical methods for waveform modelling. This project aims to develop and implement a frequency domain method to compute the first-order self-force correction to the scattering angle, among other physically relevant quantities, during a hyperbolic encounter of a small object with a Kerr black hole. Our plan is to use a scalar field model as a platform to develop solutions to the novel challenges faced by frequency domain calculations with unbound orbits, such as working with a continuous as opposed to discrete spectrum. Once this is complete we will use what we have learned to tackle the full gravitational problem.
