This project concerns human responses to environmental crisis and the distinctive theological relationshipof the human person to non-human creation. I will examine grief responses to climate breakdown andecological collapse and theologically analyse the contested categories of 'nature', 'environment', and 'life'.Emerging literature on 'solastalgia' names the experience of climate and ecological grief. I propose asolastalgic reading of theological anthropology and the doctrine of creation. Using solastalgia and liberationtheology as an interpretive lens for Maximus the Confessor's theological anthropology, I will develop a moraltheology of solastalgic expression, arguing that it can be understood as human 'vocation'.
