Catalytic Conversion of CO2 to Oxygenated Polymer Materials

This project aims to address the urgent scientific challenge of developing sustainable materials, through the developmentof new and highly efficient catalysts for CO2/vinyl ether copolymerisation. This research will provide fundamental scientificinsight into a potentially transformative polymerisation route, to afford new CO2-derived polyesters. Polyesters are one ofthe largest polymer markets: over 40 million tonnes are produced worldwide annually. Inexpensive vinyl ethers have amuch lower toxicity profile than epoxides currently used in CO2 copolymerisations some of which are carcinogenic andmutagenic, and banned in several countries.
