英文摘要
'Finding the Frontier in Late Antiquity' seeks to understand how Greco-Roman thinking about the geographic frontier evolved during late antiquity. This project will pursue three case studies each examining an apostolic story drawn from the neglected corpus of the early Christian "Apocryphal Acts", in which weird and wonderful travel scenes across vivid frontier landscapes form an integral aspect of their narratives. By using these sources as a lens, we can understand how broader Greco-Roman thought about the geographic frontier developed as they reconciled their perceptions of the "outside" with their new radical Christian ideas.
