英文摘要
As part of Safebatt, Arthur's overall objective is to improve the understanding of degradation inside cells to maximise their safety. Arthur's research aims to improve the fundamental understanding of the root causes of cell failure and the mechanisms of failure propagation. He uses hybrid non-destructive diagnostic techniques of acoustic measurements and electrochemical noise to determine specific signs of degradation and battery state of health in a range of battery types from Lithium, Lithium-Sulfur and Sodium. He is interested to use fundamental chemistry to investigate the internal structure of cells, whilst cycling, in order to understand phase changes and how they lead to macroscopic problems for performance and safety. Arthur is also interested in improving the understand of cellular degradation inside packs to provide more information to the BMS. He hopes this will improve the amount of cells used in second-life applications and reduce the number of cells recycled unnecessarily.
