My thesis makes the case for a greater focus being needed on mental health provision as part of the reconstruction process in post-conflict areas. It does this by using recent European case studies such as the Troubles in Ireland and the war in Kosovo to illustrate that addressing mental health challenges earlier can pay dividends by preventing the institutionalising of trauma for generations to come, assisting in the peace-making and reconciliation process to prevent conflict from resurfacing.
