One or Several Mothers: The Adopted Child as Critical and Clinical Subject

In literature, orphans and adoptees are tragic figures who nonetheless positively changethe world around them; in philosophy, no such positive conception exists. Drawing onpost-Freudian psychoanalysis, particularly the work of Deleuze-Guattari and theircritique of the limiting function of the Oedipus Complex, I will produce a systematicstudy of such children, reactivating the political potential found within critiques ofOedipus in order to resituate the displaced child as a positive figure within philosophy,past and present.
