Microwave reflective tunable termination with high power handling capability

Recent advances in high frequency power amplifier design have shown that limitations of classical passive matching can be overcome by adopting controllable matching networks and active matching, often in conjunction. This project will study how controllable terminations can be designed to be able to handle significant signal magnitudes with limited distortion and losses. The underpinning components, GaN switches and varactors, will be modelled in small and large signal conditions. They will then be used to design circuit level solutions, and will be tested in existing and upcoming PA architectures.
