The co-design of a psychoeducational tool for teachers of young people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD)

This project is firmly located within the ECY pathway. Located in aneducational setting, it is focused on increasing mental health literacy inprimary school teachers and other education professionals to understandOCD and increase confidence in noticing signs of OCD in their pupils. Thiswill raise and identify gaps in provision in schools and on improvingoutcomes for this population. Put simply, if OCD is identified andsubsequently treated then the young person is more likely to receive thesupport they need from both clinical and education professionals in school,increasing their ability to access education.The study will involve educational knowledge production and result in apsychoeducational resource to enhance OCD mental health literacy inprimary school teachers which will inform practices and increase inclusionin education for this population. The study fits well into the pathwaybecause it will explore what teachers and other stakeholders feel they needto know to help them work with these young people and to provideappropriate support for them. The use of co-production and innovativemethods is driven by an ethical approach that centres the desire topromote equality of access to education for young people with OCD orsuspected OCD.
