The Haptic Sense in the Dada Movement: Raoul Hausmann and Sophie Taeuber-Arp's exhibition strategies

This research project investigates how Dada exhibitions comprised original displays intended to engage the full range of the spectators' senses, in particular the haptic sense. The haptic sense is understood here not only as the tactile quality of the artworks, but also the stimulation of the spectator's feelings of tactility through the other senses. While exhibitions have featured in previous studies of Dada, their haptic dimension has yet to be fully examined. My conclusions will open new doors for the display of artworks with a determinedly tactile dimension, such as textiles.
