This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objective of the Faculty Recruitment Core is to recruit a Scientific Director for the Center for Women¿s Health Research and three additional investigators. These individuals will provide the critical mass for developing the research capacity of the CWHR and maximizing it¿s potential for interdisciplinary studies and translational research. The Specific Aims are: 1) Recruitment of a Scientific Director. Dr. Stella Nowicki was hired in August 2005, ahead of the anticipated timetable to fill this position. In recruiting Dr. Nowicki, the institution also hired her husband, Dr. Bodgan Nowicki who is also a recognized researcher in women¿s health. 2) Recruitment of three additional faculty members with research interests in Women¿s Health. In recruiting Dr. Nowicki, the institution also hired her husband, Dr. Bodgan Nowicki who is also a recognized researcher in women¿s health. His recruitment was in addition to the three proposed positions that the institution is currently looking to fill. 3) Increase the number of researchers, the number of research grants, and the number of publications focusing on women¿s health at Meharry. Dr. Nowicki is currently PI of an R01 grant and has submitted 4 publications this year. 4) Establish a robust program of women¿s health research utilizing new and existing resources. The CWHR organizational structure and institutional support has been further developed.
