Stable perovskite LEDs

Metal halide perovskite light emitting diodes (LEDs) are as efficient as commercial OLEDs and produce improved colour purity. However, their long term stability is vastly inferior to OLEDs and thus marks the biggest challenge for industrial development. In this project, the student will investigate the key degradation processes occurring in perovskite LEDs and create new and improved device architectures to overcome these degradations. A central target is to improve the present T50 lifetime from 10s of hours to 1000s of hours by the end of the PhD. The PhD student will be trained in materials synthesis, thin film and device fabrication LED characterisation and advanced spectroscopy and materials characterisation techniques such as electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.
