Ovid's 'Ibis' between politics and language

My project aims to provide a wide and comprehensive of Ovid's Ibis by focussing on three key points: the relationship between literature and power; the pragmatics of communication; the intertextual connection linking the Ibis to the rest of Ovid's exile poetry and the previous literary tradition. The significance of political implications in Tristia and Epistulae ex Ponto is acknowledged: I argue that the Ibis, with its allusive wordplays, is no exception, and the innovative method of linguistic pragmatics, which analyses the relationship between communication and context (i.e. speaker, addressee and environment), is decisive in disentangling its numerous threads.
