英文摘要
The project aims to assess whether multispectral imaging (MSI) can be used to measure blood oxygenation in the skin of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). MSI offers the ability to image large areas (whole hands in this case) and produce an image map of oxygenation. The objectives are to test, improve and develop an optical system to do this, with associated analysis software. The student will start by assessing an existing MSI system, developing an imaging protocol and software for analysis. This will be trialed with patients and healthy controls (collaborating with the Salford NHS trust where the co-supervisor works). They will then move on to improving the optics (hardware and software) to achieve increased accuracy and reproducibility, with the aim of developing a system that can be used to help monitor the progression of SSc. The transmission, scattering, and absorption of light in tissue will be modelled and these models will be compared to see which provide the most accurate and reliable method of calculating oxygenation. The project contains aspects of optics hardware, tissue optics (photon transport), imaging, software and detailed data analysis.
