Aims:The main aim of this research is to progress characterisation of fundamental behaviours of debris flows identified in the field to assess for critical design cases for structural barriers with respect to fluid rheological properties and particle dispersity. This seeks to enhance numerical simulation ofevents and mitigation structure flow interactions for improved protection.Objectives:1. To determine small-flume scaling requirements to improve physical modelling application to field events and large-scale experiments.2. To produce a data-based understanding of flow mobility responses to fluid viscosity, clay minerology, and implications on segregation.3. To compare numerical model outputs to physical data of unobstructed flow to establish and reduce limitations.4. To develop a preliminary numerical model based on physical testing of flow response to slit barriers for appropriate application and design refinement in industry
