The research will include advanced numerical modelling using existing software and development of new software. Small scale experiments will be performed within the University of Sheffield structures laboratories to validate numerical models.The experiments will involve subjecting small scale (100mm) cubes of concrete to temperatures of up to 300 degC, as well as standard testing under multiaxila compression.High-fidelity multiphysics finite element models will be implemented drawing on state-of-the art techniques in computational mechanics. These will be implemented using the commercial finite element code Comsol Multiphysics; and the open-source finite element code Code_Asterâ.
