英文摘要
I completed the Calculus of Variations (M820) and Analytic Number Theory (M823) modules in the year of 2021, each to a level of Distinction. In 2022, I achieved a level of Distinction in both Advanced Mathematical Methods with Maple (M833)and Nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations (M821). I am on track to maintain this standard in my modules of study this year, namely Galois Theory (M838), and the Dissertation in Mathematics (M840). Beyond the MSc, my intention is to undertake a research path - even obtaining a PhD - in a mathematically-related field.Last summer, I was offered a bursary by The Open University to work on a project with Dr Ben Mestel - 'Building a Suite of Routines for Computer-Assisted Proofs in Area-Preserving Twist Maps'. I was delighted to be accepted onto the programme, and after assimilating myself with the programming language Julia, as well as understanding the required theory, I began work on the program. It soon became clear to me this was work I enjoyed, despite the challenges, which were numerous. I enjoyed writing code involving high-level mathematics and solving the various problems we faced together. I prepared and presented a summary of the work carried out to members of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at The Open University. Dr Mestel was pleased with the work, which we are hoping to publish in the near future. When I expressed my interest to pursue a research path, Dr Mestel suggested that I should pursue a PhD, stating that I asked good questions, and that I possessed the necessary attributes to succeed on such a programme. The opportunity to undertake work contributing to the MRAM technology is extremely exciting. I am inspired by what Dr Andrey Umerski has achieved in his work on the theory of tunnelling magnetoresistance and its applications to hard disk technology, revolutionising an important everyday piece of engineering. As a creative person, I believe that I could make a valuable contribution to this emerging technological field. I am keen to learn more about "interlayer exchange coupling" in "out-of-equilibrium systems" and having increased my knowledge in applied mathematics and computing during my studies on the MSc, I would welcome the opportunity to apply these skills.
