I have chosen to apply to The Open University for my PhD placement because you offer a unique opportunity in black hole studies, "The Life Cycles of Black-Hole Jets" (project A2), to study new data from the LOFAR Telescope. Being able to study this data would provide insight into black hole jet morphology, a research area by which I am very intrigued. Furthermore, your department offers the opportunity to collaborate with other researchers across Europe and visit LOFAR. This is something that I am also very keen to do. I believe that my masters project has prepared me well for this PhD project, as I have gained a solid understanding of active galactic nuclei (AGN) feedback, the process by which black hole jets heat their surroundings. I would now like to advance my knowledge by exploring the properties of the jets themselves, which is an opportunity that you offer. Outside of academia, I have developed professional skills that would also benefit this project. I am employed part-time as a Front of House Manager, this position has pushed me to develop my leadership, time management and organizational skills. I also have some experience coding in Python through my "Computing for Physical Sciences" module and data analysis conducted in my masters project.
