英文摘要
This practice-led research into transgender writing, identity and themes comprises creative and critical components: a formally innovative literary novel using fiction in intersecting narrative layers to explore contemporary trans experience both pre- and post-transition, particularly in a working-class context; and a study of representations of cross-gender identities in a period of trans prehistory, contributing towards a new trans literary criticism.I'm trans (and working-class) myself, diagnosed by a gender identity service and undergoing hormone therapy (I plan on graduating with a different name than the one I'm applying under), so although I don't intend direct autofiction, the work will be influenced by my ongoing transition - practice as research in a deep sense.
