Investigating the Enantioselective Introduction of Fluorine into Saturated Molecular Frameworks

Fluorine atoms can have a big effect on the physical properties of small molecules and so the development of methods for the introduction of fluorine is important. In saturated frameworks the introduction of fluorine often generates new stereocentres but these are very difficult to control and so racemic mixtures often ensue. In this project we are investigating new methods to achieve this in an enantioselective manner using novel catalytic approaches under development in the Phipps group.
