英文摘要
One-third of the total carbon emitted from a new structure is released during the construction and demolition process. This locked up, or ÂembodiedÂ, carbon is a significant source of emissions that is often overlooked. Extending the life of built heritage structures and infrastructures and optimising their energy consumption through retrofitting, and, very importantly, through real-time monitoring, it is possible to dramatically reduce the need for high carbon consuming activities and materials. Moreover, the built heritage is a vital part of the cultural heritage value of the UK villages and towns, which must be preserved for future generations. This research project aims to develop a holistic methodology adopting digital technologies for the sustainable adaptation of built heritage assets. The main aspects concerning structural and energy efficiency retrofitting design will be investigated and treated in a multidisciplinary framework to provide a life cycle assessment model for built heritage structures and infrastructures.
