Risk Governance for Decommissioning of Nuclear Sites

Kenya is on the cusp of building and operating a nuclear reactor. Given the security concerns in the wider horn of Africa, it is critical for Kenyans to learn best policies and practices for securing the Nuclear industry from adversarial attacks from non-state actors in the region. I am both interested in the technological and policies implications of Nuclear Science. In this regards i have engaged in conferences and policy meetings advocating and developing a Nuclear Safety and Security Culture in my Country and in the African continent. I have a master's degree in nuclear science that incorporates energy and environmental policy relating to nuclear power plants and key issues associated with the decommissioning and long term management of nuclear sites. I also have training in drafting nuclear regulations and policies and experience in science communication to major stakeholders and capacity building. Equipped with this knowledge i have assisted in drafting nuclear safety and security regulations for the control of use of radioactive materials in the Country and the Continent. I believe that my experience and training has equipped me to carry out the PhD program in Risk Governance for the decommissioning of nuclear sites at the Open University. This program will deepen and entrench my knowledge in Nuclear Policy as one of the few women that has majored in this field in Kenya.
