The aim is to publish in March 2003 Elisabeth I in the revived English Monarchs Series, in response to a long-5tan£ng invitation from Yale University Press. This biography is intended to be of equal intellectual and scholarly' stature to those in the original (Methuen) English Monarchs Series and to be the standard life for the foreseeable future. No biography of Elizabeth I was ever commissioned in the Methuen series.
