WU127: STUDY TO UNDERSTAND NATURAL HISTORY OF AIDS AND EFFECTIVE THERAPY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The Study to Understand the Natural History of HIV and AIDS (SUN Study) will assemble a longitudinal, multicenter cohort of HIV-infected persons in routine outpatient care who will be monitored intensively for metabolic complications of antiretroviral therapy and the emerging diseases associated with these complications and with longer survival. This cohort will also be used to assess the efficacy of a structured program to reduce transmission of HIV by HIV-infected persons. The anticipated duration of the study is at least 5 years.
