Objective: Studies in nonhuman primates with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) have demonstrated that live-attenuated viruses are highly effective; however, such vaccines maintain a low level of pathogenicity. The objective of this study was to test the immunogenicity of a SIVdeltavif proviral DNA vaccine administered by the IM and ID routes in rhesus macaques and to test for vaccine efficacy by challenge with pathogenic SIVmac251.
