英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Objective: To prevent HIV breast milk transmission, an HIV vaccine should elicit anti-HIV immunity at the initial site of virus exposure in the oral cavity as well as throughout the infants' body. This study tested the hypothesis that passively-transferred, SIV-specific antibodies elicited by vaccination and that can mediate killing of SIV-infected cells (Antibody Dependent Cellular Cytotoxicity, ADCC) may protect against oral SIV challenge of neonatal rhesus macaques.
