This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. FMRP is the protein mutated from fragile X syndrome, which is a common mental retardation in human. FMRP is also a RNA binding protein and may regulate RNA transport in neurons and its translation. We identified several RNAs associated with FMRP by APRA-microarray. One of them is R1, which is a transcription regulator of Monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A). Now we are tried to detect the MAO-A activity in wild type and FMRP knockout mice. And the MAO substrate we are using is fluorescent protein- Kynuramine. The technique in LFD is very important for us to get the results.
