This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Training at NE-CAT beamline 24ID-C can be divided into three parts. (1) NE-CAT Sector Orientation Training; (2) Beamline software and hardware training; (3) Hands-on training with the users' own samples. (1) NE-CAT Sector Orientation Training: This is APS required training (valid for two years) and the main goal of this training is teaching NE-CAT¿s safety plan. The format of this training is a face-to-face presentation by NE-CAT staff and an escorted tour. The time required for this part of the training is approximately 30-45 minutes. (2) Beamline software and hardware training: This is NE-CAT required training with a goal of familiarizing the user with the beamline¿s software and hardware. The format of this training is a real time demonstration at the beamline, often using the user¿s sample. The time required for this part of the training is approximately 60-75 minutes. (3) Hands-on training with a users' own samples: This is NE-CAT required training with a goal of making the user comfortable using the beamline¿s software and hardware system. The format of this training is a real time experiment at the beamline with the user¿s sample. The time required for this part of the training is approximately 60-120 minutes. 94 first time users were trained during the reporting period.
