This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to test whether a lack of light perception causes disruption of circadian rhythms and whether there are differences in the timing of the internal body clock between individuals with and without light perception. The data from the study may lead to a better understanding of sleep disruptions and circadian rhythm disorders in blind and sighted people, and may help to develop a potential therapy for blind people so that they stay adapted to the 24-hour day.
