英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to gather information about a new treatment that might help prevent another stroke from happening in people who have suffered a "lacunar stroke." Aspirin is the medicine most widely used and is the standard therapy for this type of stroke. Clopidogrel is another medicine doctors use to prevent stroke. Both of these medicines have an effect on blood clotting and are now widely prescribed by doctors for stroke prevention. However, using them together has not been tested. We want to learn if using them together is more effective than aspirin alone. We also want to find out if lowering a patient's blood pressure below the usual limits will also help prevent stroke and maintain thinking ability.
