GLYBURIDE VERSUS INSULIN IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The main purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of glyburide compared to insulin in the management of gestational diabetic subjects that did not respond to nutritional therapy in the Obstetrics Department of King Drew Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA. This is a prospective, randomized and open trial. Four hundred pregnant women with gestational diabetes who have failed to achieve adequate blood glucose control on ADA diet will be recruited for the study. The women will be randomly assigned into the two Groups (A=Insulin recipients (200) and B=Glyburide recipients (200)). Eligible subjects from all ethnic groups will be enrolled. All subjects will be followed by blood glucose monitoring throughout pregnancy and adjustments of medication will be made when a
