This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that regulate blood flow with specific attention to local characteristics of blood vessels. Blood flow is regulated by several mechanisms including nervous signals and by stretch of blood vessels. It is not entirely clear which of these mechanisms plays a more important role in blood flow regulation in certain conditions.
