This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The aims of this proposed clinical protocol in chronic dialysis patients are to assess: 1. the presence and extent of aortic, coronary, and valvular calcification by Electron Beam Computed Tomography. 2. Abdominal aorta and iliac arteries calcification by plain abdomen and pelvic x-ray. 3. Left ventricular mass and systo-diastolic function by echocardiography. 4. Arterial stiffness of large compliance arteries by measuring Pulse Wave Velocity. 5. Bone mineral density of spine, hip and forearm as it relates to vascular calcifications. 6. Association of serological markers of disease with atherosclerosis prevalence and progression.
