This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to further understand why blood pressure is elevated in most patients with early stages of kidney disease. We want to determine whether one of the factors responsible for high blood pressure in people with kidney disease is increased constriction of blood vessels or abnormalities in central nervous system reflexes which help to control blood pressure. In addition, we want to determine whether raising fatty acids (a type of fat) in the bloodstream influences blood vessel constriction and blood pressure reflexes. More knowledge about high blood pressure related to kidney disease may lead to better treatment and help to prevent heart disease in people with kidney disease.
