This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Diabetic patients typically suffer from digestive problems referred to as gastroparesis. These digestive problems can interfere with absorption of your anti-rejection medication. Poor absorption of these anti-rejection medications can lead to a higher risk of rejection of the transplanted kidney. The absorption of many anti-rejection drugs, namely Neoral, Prograf, and Cellcept, is not fully understood in diabetic transplant patients. The purpose of this clinical research study is to identify an anti-rejection medication regimen that is better absorbed by transplant patients with diabetes. In this study, subjects are switched from Neoral to Prograf and will continue to remain on prednisone and Cellcept. Subjects also undergo 6 monthly 12-hour blood draw profiles.
