This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Inflammatory contributes to the progression of cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. Anti-inflammatory therapy of corticosteroids in patients with CF have shown clinical benefit, but adverse effects have limited their use. Results from the clinical trials of alternate-day corticosteriods and high-dose ibuprofen in CF indicate anti-inflammatory therapy will slow the rate of decline. This study is a two arm, multicenter, randomized, open-label, controlled, parallel-group trial comparing the effects of 28 days of ibuprofen, or no treatment on inflammatory mediators in induced sputum in subjects with mild to moderate CF lung disease.
