This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The overall protocol analyzes expression of autoantibodies for a large number of patients and their relatives with autoimmunity. The clinical research center portion of the protocol allows the metabolic evaluation of a much smaller group of individuals expressing 21-hydroxylase autoantibodies to rule of the presence of Addison's disease and to prospectively define the progression to overt Addison's disease and in addition for individuals expressing anti-islet autoantibodies, glucose and insulin secretion is evaluated, to diagnose diabetes and to follow progression to diabetes in those at risk.
