FMRI EVALUATION OF PARKINSON'S DISEASE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This project will investigate the efficacy of task-activated fMRI as a biomarker for quantifying a therapeutic response in Parkinson's Disease (PD). The specific aims are to: (1) determine the sensitivity of task-activated fMRI for detecting changes in brain activation patterns occurring in PD patients on and off dopaminergic replacement therapy, (2) compare the relative sensitivity to therapeutic response of task-activated fMRI compared to established clinical outcome measures, and (3) determine the test-retest reliability of task-activated fMRI in healthy older adults.
