EFFECT OF CITALOPRAM ON WORRY-INDUCED RCBF CHANGES

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The study added 4 patients with GAD to increase the sample and permit better statistical analysis of the data. Ten patients with GAD were scanned, using fMRI, before and after 7 weeks of treatment with citalopram. Imaging consisted in measuring BOLD responses while 1. inducing anxiety by hearing sentences that described a personal worry versus emotionally neutral sentences and 2.a decision making task, by measuring when a indistinctly drawn picture was recognized.
