This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objectives of this pilot study are to; 1) quantify the effect of a 12 week home based walking intervention and a combined 12-week walking and diet intervention on physical activity levels, fitness, quality of life, body composition, and estrogen metabolism in survivors of breast cancer, and 2) develop and test the feasibility of physical activity and diet intervention materials for future studies in this population. We hypothesize that women randomized to the walking intervention will report higher levels of physical activity, and quality of life indicators for physical status, maintain their initial body weight, and have more favorable estrogen metabolite profiles.
