This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Release time is given for the study of "Tagging and Characterization of Genes in the Signal Transduction Pathway of 5'-Nucloetidase in Dictyostelium." This will allow research development which will coincide with the mini-grant project currently being funded by INBRE. Dr. Ubeidat will design several experiments and approaches to tag genes that are part of the signal transduction pathway of 5nt. Understanding the function of 5'-nucleotidase gene and its protein product require both in vivo and in vitro analysis of various mutants in the signal transduction pathway of the gene. His goal is to identify such mutants that could be used to identify functional genes that are required for proper operation of the gene and necessary for the proper differentiation of the cells. Using REMI and other methods like microarray and RNAi to analyze gene expression will give more information about the specific function and role in Dictyostelium and probably more information to help understand the functions in other organisms like humans.
