This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Dr. Gayle will serve as a statistical and bioinformatics consultant for the faculty at BHSU and other BRIN participant faculty. He is a mathematician with special training in statistics related to bioinformatics. During the course of the year, Dr. Gayle has worked on analyzing two sets of cDNA microarray data involving hormone treated rats from Dr. Eyster's physiology lab at USD. As part of this analysis and in addition to it, he has been studying the statistical literature as it relates to the analysis of such data. Finally, he is developing a model for such analysis and is preparing to implement that model in the analysis of data sets arising from experiments at BHSU after comparing how it functions with other tested methods on well-explored sets of array data. He also gave a presentation on analysis of data for the faculty and students at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine.
